The cost of installing shower tile will depend on:
Tile removal. Does the contractor need to remove any tile? The demolition and disposal of the any existing tile will increase the cost of your shower project.
Shower size. Many contractors will base their estimate on the square footage of the project. The size of your shower will dictate the amount of material required. Plus, your contractor should order a little extra tile for the waste overage (and future repairs). Installing tile from the floor to the ceiling will be more expensive than a small shower surround. Also, adding custom built-in shelving may increase the cost.

Shower door or enclosure. Do you need to install or replace the shower door? You may need to hire a separate glass door contractor for this part of your project. There are many different options to choose from when it comes to selecting the right door. While some doors slide, other may swing open. As a general rule, frameless doors tend to be more expensive than framed shower doors. Additionally, upgrading the hardware of the door may impact the cost.
Material options. What type of tile do you want? There are many options to choose from, including 1) porcelain, 2) ceramic, 3) marble, 4) travertine, or 5) slate and other natural stones. You may also incorporate some decorative glass tiles into your design.
Tile size. Tiles come in all shapes and sizes. In most cases, it is more labor-intensive to install smaller tiles. The additional to time required to lay the tile and the grout the joints will increase the cost of installation.
Patterns and designs. How would you like the tile installed? Would you like a basic subway tile in a straight pattern? Or, would you like a detailed mosaic design? As the complexity of the design increases, so will the cost of installation.
Are all materials included? Tile is one of many materials that the contractor will need. The contractor should provide an itemized cost estimate before beginning the project. Make certain that all materials, from waterproofing membranes to grout and adhesives, are included in writing. This can help you to avoid surprise charges at the completion of the project.
